Bond-Inspired Elegance: Sharp Sophistication at Christopher Bates Fall 2013

Impeccably tailored garments and a mix of luxurious textures took to the stage at the Christopher Bates Fall 2013 runway presentation at World MasterCard Fashion Week. The designer's latest line of menswear proved to be classically elegant thanks to its European aesthetic. From streamlined silhouettes to Bates' modernized reinterpretations of retro fashions like suspenders and high-waisted trousers, this collection makes for a seamless transition from day to evening.

Models walked the runway in debonair ensembles that were reminiscent of those worn by 007 agent James Bond or by a character out of a bestseller by Bret Easton Ellis, the designer's favourite author. A wide range of the designer's sophisticated staples varied from prim work attire to hunter-inspired outerwear that gained praise from an audience of onlookers. Shining a light on crisp fabrics and incredibly cut collared shirts, the Christopher Bates Fall 2013 collection proved to be a bold and luxurious choice for the style setter with a keen eye for quality.

Before seeing the latest from Christopher Bates hit the World MasterCard Fashion Week runway stage, THE BRUNETTES caught up with the designer earlier that week and posed with some of his models after his show.

THE BRUNETTES @ World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week Fall 2013: Day 3

On day three, THE BRUNETTES arrived to the World MasterCard Fashion Week tent in the early evening and partied well into the night. In between stellar shows from Joe Fresh, KORHANI home, and MATIS by Lucian Matis, the duo mingled with fellow fashion writers, socialites, and designers, only taking a break from the couture conversations to pose for snapshots with designer Evan Biddell and Big Brother Canada host Arisa Cox. Ending the evening with a couple of drinks was the perfect way for THE BRUNETTES to reminisce about the collections and plan for the days ahead.

THE BRUNETTES Attend the Hilary MacMillan Fall/Winter 2013 Runway Event

THE BRUNETTES taxied over to 99 Sudbury last week to see the unveiling of the Hilary MacMillan Fall/Winter 2013 collection, which was being presented in the lofty and beautifully restored Glass Factory space of the building.

After enjoying some complementary food and drinks, exploring the venue, and chatting up some of our favourite fellow fashion writers at the show’s pre-party, it was time for THE BRUNETTES to take their seats and enjoy the presentation of stellar wears from the designer.

Sitting in prime seats—in row A, of course—THE BRUNETTES had an unparalleled view of the luxe collection. So when the show came to an end, we couldn’t help ourselves and decided to keep the spirit of the Hilary MacMillan Fall/Winter 2013 show going by strutting down the runway as well.

Remixed Retro Luxury: Hilary MacMillan Fall/Winter 2013 Runway Debut

Elegant layers and brocade textures prevailed at the Hilary MacMillan Fall 2013 runway presentation. The sophisticated showing, held at the Glass Factory at 99 Sudbury, marked the designer's debut onto the Canadian runway stage.

Showcased in a rich palette of creams, blacks and vivid crimsons, this stunning collection featured a mix of feminine tailoring and gold-accented patterns that infused ethnic inspirations with an aesthetic of retro glamour.

From color-matching suit sets to voluminous coats, the Hilary MacMillan Fall 2013 runway presentation was a fresh and modern interpretation of '80s-inspired separates and outerwear silhouettes that would make for a seamless transition from day to evening.

#WMCFW Fall/Winter 2013 Style Selects: Round One

Though some blustery weather conditions caused many at the World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013 tent to arrive dressed down and more practically, there were some who still combined a heavy dose of fashion with their functionally warm outerwear. This grouping of style selects shows that by mixing varied fabrics and textures, like wool, leather, and fur, how one can look cool without feeling the cold of below zero temperatures.
