Versus Round 3: Haute Halloween Edition

In this frightfully fashionable, haute Halloween edition of Versus, THE BRUNETTES get in touch with their inner-teen, John as Peeta Mellark from 'The Hunger Games' and Jana as a Vampire inspired from 'The Twilight Saga', to fight to the fake death for the bragging rights of best costume.

Adrian Wu Spring 2013

Entitled "Distopia", the mesmerizing Adrian Wu Spring 2013 collection featured an array of avant-garde pieces made from an unconventional polyurethane material. The designer's memorable runway presentation took its inspiration from the nuclear war threat of the 1950s. From its sculptural sensibility to its classically elegant and retro styling, this artful collection shocked and surprised its audience.

Walking under an oversized disco ball and down a crimson runway, models sported the designer's unique creations while pianist Patrick Dilkie and singer Caitlin Comeau-Jarvis performed classic hits that included Henry Mancini's "Moon River" and "I'm a Fool to Want You" by Billie Holiday.

ASHTIANI Spring/Summer 2013

Toronto-based designer Goinaz Ashtiani revealed her edgy Spring 2013 collection at Toronto's World Mastercard Fashion Week. The sleek sportswear show featured angular and architectural silhouettes along with luxe textile combinations. Displayed in a fresh palette of pastel hues, the designer's latest collection merged a streamlined 60s inspiration along with a fiercely futuristic visual concept.

From textured cottons and prim patent leathers to show-stopping eyewear accessories, the crowd-pleasing ASHTIANI Spring 2013 collection left its audience in awe with its ethereal air of elegance, catching the eye of style heavyweights including former Fashion Week executive director Robin Kay.

Bustle Spring/Summer 2013

Shining bright on the runway of World MasterCard Fashion Week, The Bustle Spring/Summer 2013 collection from designers Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow was a highlight of the week. The presentation was the closing finale of its night and featured tailored, high-gloss suits, striped suited separates, floral safari looks, and bold monochromatic patterns. Several items also had a bit of an 80s flair, including a light bomber jacket with a large image of a family of zebras embroidered onto its back, which reminded THE BRUNETTES of the oh-so-cool scorpion version that Ryan Gosling wears in ‘Drive’. John of THE BRUNETTES was so excited about this collection that he had to wear a piece of Bustle to the show himself with this hunting-inspired jacket.

Evan Biddell Spring/Summer 2013 Collection: ‘aMuse’

The Evan Biddell Spring/Summer 2013 collection, entitled ‘aMuse’, ran circles around its competition. Well, it actually walked circles to be more accurate. Models wearing exotic prints, embossed textures, and leather pieces strutted down the runway in a circular formation, allowing individual models to emerge from the infinite loop of couture to stand alone and in contrast. The show was preceded by a short fashion film and marked the end of the designer’s two-year break from presenting at World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week.

THE BRUNETTES @ World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Day 2

Undoubtedly one of THE BRUNETTES' busiest days at World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week, we attended a total of six runway presentations and still found the time to pose for some photo ops, proving that we were “born with it.”

Collections presented on this evening included those of Adrian Wu, DeMOYO, ASHTIANI by Golnaz Ashtiani, aMuse by Evan Biddell, Mélissa Nepton, Bustle, and a series of up-and-coming designers in the Mercedes-Benz Start Up National Final. After taking in the ASHTIANI show, THE BRUNETTES stopped to chat with Michelle B. from 'The Bachelor Canada'.

Later we walked the runway ourselves at the Rowenta photo pavilion, giving John the opportunity to strut his stuff for the camera and show off his Bustle hunting blazer that he wore specifically for Shawn Hewson’s catwalk closing.

Between runway presentations THE BRUNETTES also mingled with male models, snacked on Parisian macarons on offer from sponsor Caesarstone, received a party invitation from actor Sam Sarpong, and even took some time to blog about it all in the Target media lounge.

After a couple more solo poses at the Maybelline wall and some serious noshing on model-sized sandwiches provided by Target, THE BRUNETTES ended their evening feeling inspired to get in touch with their own inner model and struck a pose with Stacey McKenzie.
